Help
Plain-English answers, no support-ticket maze.
Getting started
- Sign in. The first screen you'll land on is your Jobs queue — empty at first.
- Open the Companies tab. Add 5–10 companies whose careers pages you want to watch. Each company is a name, a website, and (optionally) a careers-page URL. We auto-detect the careers page if you leave it blank.
- Click Find me jobs. We scan the careers pages you added plus the public aggregators we support, dedupe everything, and surface the queue.
- Triage the queue with keyboard shortcuts (j/k to move, a to import, x to dismiss, e to edit). Press ? for the full list.
- For roles you import, click Analyze fit to get a structured evaluation against your CV.
Bookmarklet — capturing from gated platforms
LinkedIn, Indeed, StepStone, and XING actively block server-side fetches, so Helpmefindthejob doesn't try to scrape them from our side. Instead, the bookmarklet runs in your own logged-in browser and captures a job's URL + title with one click.
- Open Settings → Bookmarklet. The card walks you through it.
- Make sure your bookmark bar is visible. On Chrome / Edge / Safari press ⌘+Shift+B (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+B (Windows / Linux).
- Click and hold the green button on that card, drag it up to the bookmark bar, let go.
- When you're on a job page anywhere, click the bookmark. We add the job to your queue, return you to the same tab.
AI modes — your choice, your billing
You pick how the Analyze fit button reaches a model. Three options:
- Manual
- We prepare the prompt and the input. You paste it into your existing ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini browser tab. No API key needed; uses your existing subscription. Free to use within Helpmefindthejob.
- Bring-your-own key
- You paste an API key (OpenAI
sk-…, Anthropicsk-ant-…, GeminiAIza…, or OpenRoutersk-or-…) once. We auto-detect the provider, save the key encrypted, and call directly. Cost goes to your provider, not us. - Managed AI (waitlist)
- We bill, we provide the key, we set quotas. Currently a Stripe waitlist — sign up from Settings → AI provider.
You can switch any time. The system re-prompts for consent when you switch providers, because the data processor changes.
Billing
Two paid plans (operator-managed during the pilot):
- Free — three saved searches, Manual AI mode, 30-day retention. No card.
- Pro — unlimited saved searches, Managed AI, 90-day retention, daily digest. Monthly or annual.
Stripe handles the subscription lifecycle — you can self-manage, see invoices, and cancel from the Stripe Customer Portal link inside Settings → Subscription. We do not store card data; we store only Stripe customer + subscription IDs.
GDPR & data control
- Export everything you own. Settings → Backup & restore → Export backup. The download is JSON; everything we have on you is in it.
- Delete individual records. Companies, discovered jobs, imported jobs are user-deletable from the app. Saved searches, push subscriptions, and AI provider preferences too.
- Delete the whole account. Settings → Privacy → Request deletion. We email a confirmation; after a 7-day grace window you can cancel, the account hard-deletes. Backup tarballs are pruned per the configured retention.
- What we never store: raw AI provider keys (only env-var names in the UI), payment card data, your browsing outside the app.
The full data inventory and retention windows live on Data retention. Privacy-first stance lives on Privacy.
Troubleshooting
- The queue is empty even after Find me jobs
- Either no companies added (check Companies tab), or quota was hit (check the day counter in the sidebar — defaults are 50 scans/day, 50 AI calls/day). Quotas reset at midnight UTC.
- Bookmarklet does nothing on a LinkedIn page
- LinkedIn changes its DOM frequently. Open the browser console; if you see a JS error, send a screenshot to support — we ship bookmarklet fixes inside the app, you don't have to re-install.
- I switched language but UI didn't change
- The app reloads on locale switch. If you saw old strings momentarily, that's a stale browser cache — a hard refresh (⌘+Shift+R) clears it.
- Login fails with the right password
- Account may have been deactivated, or rate-limited (5 wrong attempts = backoff window). Wait 15 minutes; if still locked, contact support@helpmefindthejob.org.
